Fishy Finances: Tips for Funding your Fish Farm
Aquaculture Business Planning 101: Aquaculture Can Be Successful But …: Keys to economic and financial success of aquaculture businesses and working through the stages of developing a realistic aquaculture business plan that lays the foundation for success.

Fish Health on the Farm: What Can I Do and Resources When It’s Beyond Me: Overview of identifying fish health problems, what you can do on the farm to prevent and treat problems, and when to ask for help from a vet or diagnostics lab.

Alternative Production Systems: In-Pond Raceways: General overview of in-pond raceway systems

The Basics of Bio Planning: How to Streamline Fish Production at Your Farm: Overview of “bioplanning” and setting yearly production goals by projecting growth and creating a production schedule that will produce a consistent stream of fish to be harvested.

Seed to $$$ – Managing Your Farm During Economic Downturns: This 48-minute video is mainly directed at farms already in production, but would also be useful for potential and new farmers. The information in this video begins with a broad overview of national economics, how that affects agricultural commodities in general, and then focuses on individual farms and what methods might be used to get them through difficult economic times.

Aquaculture: Water Quality and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System: This 10-minute video produced by the EPA gives an overview of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program and how it relates to the aquaculture sector. The NPDES permit program creates a framework to control pollutant discharge into our nation’s waters.

How to Do It Yourself: This 55-minute webinar introduces the topic of aquaponics, the coupling of aquaculture with hydroponics or growing fish and plants together. It explores the design and management of a system that can be operated at the hobby level or can be scaled up to a commercial operation. In addition, economic viability, food safety, and environmental suitability are discussed.

What You Need to Know About Biosecurity: Biosecurity is a critical part of any aquaculture facilities management plan. This 55-minute webinar describes general principles and strategies to minimize risks aquaculture producers face. Examples based on selected species and production systems are provided.

Seafood Farming: Not Just for Saltwater: This 48-minute video gives an overview of freshwater aquaculture in the United States. It covers the history, present production techniques, challenges, and prospects for future growth of freshwater aquaculture in the U.S.

Using salt solutions to sort Atlantic Salmon eggs[13]

Preparing a concentrated salt solution (~12-15% NaCl) for sorting Atlantic Salmon eggs.

Testing the concentrated salt solution to determine if it is an appropriate concentration to separate dead (floating) eggs from live (sinking) eggs.

Atlantic Salmon eggs are drained and transferred to a concentrated salt solution (~12-15% NaCl) for sorting. After skimming off the dead (floating) eggs, the remaining live (sinking) eggs are rinsed with freshwater and returned to incubation.
