We are delighted to begin our partnership with Oxford University Press (OUP), a distinguished nonprofit publisher and supporter of scientific societies. AFS and OUP share a commitment to ensuring your work is reviewed by high quality experts, receives responsive author support and service, reaches the right audience, builds on a solid body of research, and makes a meaningful impact in the profession. Every manuscript published helps AFS continue to grow, support our members, and advocate for the conservation and sustainability of fishery resources and aquatic ecosystems.
Full Access with Membership! How to Log in
Here’s how to use your member full access to AFS journals at Oxford University Press (OUP).

Subscribe to Content Alerts
Never miss an important article by signing up for content email alerts for your favorite AFS journals. You can choose from alerts for either complete issues or individual new articles, at the frequency of your choosing. Just open a free account at OUP and select the alerts you would like to receive.

Submitting Manuscripts – What’s the Same and What’s New?
Most importantly, you can keep using your same ScholarOne account to submit your manuscript or serve as a reviewer for any of our six publications. You may have noticed that AFS has adopted a few structures and features to help improve discoverability, transparency, reproducibility, and accountability. These include a structured abstract, a lay summary, keywords, acknowledgments, and declaration statements covering conflict of interest, data availability, ethics, and funding. More detailed information is available in the Instructions for Authors.

No Cost, Discounted, and Transparent Fees
Read and Publish: Open Access (OA) publishing is more accessible than ever with institutional support through OUP’s ever expanding “Read and Publish” agreements or AFS member discounts. Oxford’s Read and Publish agreements allow eligible authors from participating institutions to publish OA in AFS journals at no cost.
Member Benefits: In Marine and Coastal Fisheries, our gold OA journal, AFS members receive 50% off the OA fee. For all other AFS publications, AFS members receive 20% off the OA fee. For those publishing under a standard license, we are pleased to offer a simple, flat publication fee, making it easier for authors and funders to plan ahead. Best of all, all publication fees directly support AFS programs and missions.

Renewing Your Institutional Subscription
Due to the change of our journal publisher, institutional journal subscriptions will not automatically renew as they may have done in previous years. To ensure you continue to have access to the latest research in the field, remind your institution to renew their subscription to AFS journals today.

Going Green
For several years, AFS has been working with our publishing partners to adopt more sustainable publishing practices and reduce our carbon footprint. Starting in 2025, our journals are available online only. The best way to access the journals is through your AFS membership or with an institutional subscription.
Fisheries magazine is still available in print for AFS members who opt-in, but we encourage you to give “going green” a chance. Online access is quick, easy, and one of your member benefits. Did you know the energy required to print Fisheries could power 1,628,800 cell phones, and printing enough copies for the entire AFS membership consumes the equivalent of 372 trees?
