Call or write your U.S. Senators and Representatives TODAY. Science-based fisheries management is under assault from firing of federal employees and severe budget cuts to NOAA Fisheries and important programs such as the National Sea Grant Program. The dismantling of NOAA will deeply affect vital sustainable fisheries management (see https://www.espadvisor.com/post/white-house-proposes-drastic-noaa-cuts-threatening-weather-and-ocean-science for more details). Let your elected leaders in Washington hear from you to underscore the importance of the agency and their work in sustainable U.S. fisheries. Share the message below or write something in your own words:
“On Earth Day, we are reaching out in support of science-based fisheries management and the federal fisheries professionals who work tirelessly to ensure sustainable U.S. fisheries. Efforts to dismantle NOAA Fisheries, slash the agency’s budget and workforce, and cut critical research and fisheries management the agency provides threatens the foundation of sustainable U.S. fisheries. Over the last few decades, NOAA Fisheries has rebuilt overfished stocks and ensured we are not overfishing our oceans. We urge you to ensure that NOAA Fisheries is appropriately funded and staffed to ensure our nation’s fisheries are sustainable.”
