I had the pleasure of attending the Kansas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society’s 50th Annual Meeting this week. Chapter meetings are one of my favorite aspects of AFS, so having the opportunity to visit even more of them now in my position as AFS Executive Director is wonderful.
Today’s paper is a recent publication from Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) fisheries staff, assessing Blue Catfish populations in four Kansas reservoirs. KDWP staff have a long history of significant contributions to fisheries management and applied fisheries research, and this is another important entry. Just like many other agencies employees (state, federal, tribal, etc.), these are really good people doing really good work to enhance fisheries. They are truly personifying the mission of AFS – to improve the conservation and sustainability of fishery resources and aquatic ecosystems by advancing fisheries and aquatic science and promoting the development of fisheries professionals. I’m proud to have them as colleagues, and delighted to call them friends. Keep up the good work everyone!
