Let me start with, I love this paper. I love this kind of work. As a former agency employee, I know that more employees to do the work does not seem to be the future path. That necessitates creative solutions, and I think collaborations with stakeholders are an absolute key to future success. I was involved in some of these efforts in my prior position in Iowa. I’ve heard that anglers are starting to ask “what’s next” from the data and information they have provided. Are management improvements forthcoming because of their participation? That’s a great question, because if entities request participation without tangible outcomes, then participation will wane.
Following is an interesting line from the paper “Scientific research that is not derived from collaborative conversations that incorporate local context is less likely to produce findings that are actionable.”
Today’s paper is from Fisheries, and showcases collaborative research in the coastal flats of Florida and the Caribbean. I think it is a great read. Enjoy, and I look forward to another year of interesting and paper papers to share in 2025.
