Weekly spotlight on fisheries science journal articles

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend the American Sportfishing Association’s Sportfishing Summit. This is the fall gathering of individuals representing sportfishing manufacturers, professional angler groups, fishing-centric nonprofits, and a variety of other folks. I felt it was an important investment of my time as the Executive Director of AFS to reach out to and interact with this group. These folks are inextricably linked with our constituents, and I feel that it is a group that AFS, and AFS members, should strengthen our relationship with. And to start that process, I went to them.
Today’s paper somehow popped up while I was searching for a journal article on a different topic on the AFS journals web site. I have no idea why it popped up, and I had no idea such a paper had even been written. I believe this was certainly serendipity. The author of this article, Doug Stang, is still writing and working for InFisherman, 43 years later. I think the overall perspective from this article, an open letter to anglers and fisheries professionals, is as accurate today as it was back then. I feel fortunate to have stumbled upon it, and I am glad to have the opportunity to share it with you today. If you have not read one of the articles I provide in a while, start with this one. Thanks, and have a great weekend.
