Steve Pescitelli, stream specialist with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and president-elect of the AFS Illinois Chapter, discusses Chicago River catfish in the film, Friends of the Chicago River. It’s a great conservation success story about the reintroduction of Channel Catfish into the Chicago River. Friends of the Chicago River and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources released 195,000 juvenile Channel Catfish into the Chicago and Calumet rivers. Their success will serve as a model to other cities on how to turn an urban river into an environmental asset.
