Abstract.—The Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) is a collaboration of Land Grant and Sea Grant institutions to share educational resources and expertise to reduce the impact of natural and man-made disasters. EDEN has an electronic communication network and Web site that make information, educational materials, and online courses available to extension agents, faculty, and collaborators to use when working with constituents. EDEN also supports training opportunities and workshops to enhance the capacity of faculty to provide programs on mitigation, preparation, response, and recovery of natural and man-made disasters. EDEN contributed to the recovery efforts following hurricanes Katrina and Rita through educational materials and programs that were relevant to the coastal communities and businesses impacted. EDEN has the capacity to expand its educational impact through the partnership with Sea Grant to more effectively address needs of coastal communities, businesses, and resource managers.
