This collection of papers on grenadiers is a welcome addition to the literature on the biology of the ichthyofauna of the outer continental shelf on down to nearly the bottom of the deepest sea. There are more than 400 species of grenadiers, most of which as adults live close to the bottom (benthopelagic in habit). Grenadiers as a group are found from the Arctic to the Antarctic, although the group is apparently most species-rich beneath tropical seas.
