The Gulf of California, also known as the Sea of Cortez, is a sub-tropical sea (Brusca, 1980) located between the Baja Peninsula and the Mexican mainland states of Sonora and Sinaloa.

The Gulf of California is continually growing in popularity for vacationers, whether on the mainland or Baja California, and its shores provide recreational divers, sports fishermen, kayakers, boaters and beachgoers a place to explore and relax.
