Update on Noise Issues

As you experienced on Tuesday, the convention center is hosting a second celebration of teachers in the lower floor of the center on Thursday morning. We anticipate that it will be similar to Tuesday's event with about 1,000 guests, a band, and speeches. All of our sessions will be on floors 2 and 3 and we have requested, multiple times, that they lower the noise level. The convention center allowed these events without consulting with AFS and, other than moving our sessions to higher floors, they have been unresponsive to our requests to limit the impacts upon the LACFC. We are very disappointed with this major scheduling error by the convention center and have expressed this numerous times. We apologize for the inconvenience and communication problems that this has caused. Please check your conference app for updated room assignments.

Coming Events

AFS 153rd Annual Meeting
20 -24 August 2023
Grand Rapids, Michigan

The American Fisheries Society, President April Croxton, and the Michigan Chapter are excited to host the 153rd AFS Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Home to the iconic Blue Bridge and Grand River, AFS is thrilled to return to the city of Grand Rapids following a successful Joint Aquatic Sciences Meeting held earlier this year. As we continue to address the various stressors impacting fisheries and their ecosystems, we hope that this year’s theme, “Adaptive approaches to understand and manage changes in fisheries,” will stimulate a wide range of sessions as we bring together professionals from across North America and countries throughout the world.

9th World Fisheries Congress
3-9 March 2024
Seattle, Washington

Organized through the World Council of Fisheries Societies, every four years delegates from around the world meet to exchange ideas and perspectives about new research, emerging issues, scientific breakthroughs, and governance related to fisheries science, industry, conservation, and management.
Join us in 2024 as we explore the congress theme of Fish and Fisheries at the Food-Water-Energy Nexus. We are preparing a program composed of an opening plenary, general sessions, education workshops, and planned symposia related to sustainability, fish and aquatic ecosystems, fisheries and society, and innovations in fisheries.
