Fisheries and Climate Change: Legal and Management Implications

A new web tool allows users to estimate the median, mode, and distribution of prey lengths likely ingested by piscivorous individuals or an entire piscivorous population with nothing more than observed, estimated, or hypothesized predator lengths, arguably the most readily available form of fisheries data.

This study quantifies probabilities of accuracy and detectability in radio telemetry as affected by transmitter type, depth, number, and receiver altitude.

Do Acoustic Telemetry Tags Impact Growth, Survival,or Behavior in Age-0 Muskellunge?

Tag retention, healing, survival, relative growth rates, and behavior were evaluated for age-0 Muskellunge Esox masquinongy implanted with JSATs, one of the smallest commercially available acoustic transmitters. No fish lost tags or died due to surgery, wounds healed within 30 days, and tag insertion did not influence growth of tagged, sham, or control Muskellunge after 4 months.

The American Fisheries Society seeks a scientist with a broad perspective on fisheries to act as Co-Chief Science Editor to work as part of a leadership team to oversee the science and creative content of Fisheries. The Editor must be committed to fast-paced deadlines and would be appointed for a five-year renewable term.
