SCIENCE

Engaging with Women's Knowledge in Bristol Bay Fisheries

Millions of women around the globe are involved in fisheries, but their roles are typically overlooked in fisheries management. As research grows documenting these roles, the important question has risen of how to incorporate gender into sustainability research and fisheries management, especially of small‐scale fisheries. With the historically high level of engagement by women in family‐oriented commercial and subsistence salmon fisheries, the Bristol Bay region of Alaska is an ideal place to advance such work.

Pushing Sampling Boundaries with Advanced Technology

Ever since the first submarine was used for deep‐sea research in the 1930s, researchers and engineers have continued to develop new ways of exploring the outermost reaches of our oceans. In the past couple of decades, the rapid progression of underwater vehicle technology has afforded scientists not only the ability to go deeper and into more remote areas, but also collect larger suites of data over longer time scales.

Proposed Standard Weight (Ws) Equation and Standard Length Categories for Shoal Bass

This paper shows how the authors developed standard weight equations for Shoal Bass Micropterus cataractae with the traditional regression-line-percentile technique and the relatively newer empirical-percentile method.

Pallid Sturgeon Identification in the Lower Mississippi River
