AFS Policy Director Drue Winters testified last week before the only scheduled EPA public hearing on the revised Waters of the U.S. Rule (WOTUS). During her testimony, Winters read from an AFS statement and supporting "impacts" paper, citing how the revised Rule fails to consider science and threatens fish and fisheries. Public comment is open until April 15.

According to researchers in the latest issue of Transactions, recent declines in the survival of Chinook Salmon stocks throughout Alaska led them to examine archived scale samples, which showed fast growth during the first and third years at sea was associated with higher rates of marine survival.
|

Researchers say that adequately determining whether changes in fish abundance observed in a restored area are due to increased movement, survival, or the amount of restoration, requires detailed monitoring of these factors simultaneously.
