Comments Due April 15 on the Waters of the US Rule

Add your voice to the comments on the proposed revision of the Waters of the US (WOTUS). The comment period ends on April 15 and will not be extended. AFS is working with partners to host a Congressional briefing on April 4 about the harmful impacts on fisheries habitat.

National Fish Habitat Conservation Through State Partnerships Act

Kansas Fisheries Division Director and AFS member Doug Nygren spoke at a Congressional briefing last week about the economic and conservation benefits of the National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP). Bipartisan legislation was introduced last week to codify NFHP.

Thank You for Your Impressive Symposia Submissions

We are at 90-plus symposia submissions for the Reno joint conference with The Wildlife Society this September, including dozens of joint fish/wildlife symposia. Abstracts for oral presentations and posters for both symposia and contributed papers are due April 12.

Virtual Issue Generates Genuine Fish and Wildlife Collaboration in Reno

We set out to merge science from AFS and The Wildlife Society ahead of our joint conference -- and we did it. Thanks to publications staff and editors from both organizations, and our publisher, Wiley, we produced Part One of this joint, virtual issue featuring articles on fish and wildlife. Researchers describe this program and evaluate its effectiveness by measuring and comparing the self‐efficacy and attitudes of participants before and after a class by using generalized linear models with repeated measures.

Apply for Travel Grants to Reno

Early Career Professionals: The AFS Education Section is offering travel assistance to attend the 2019 joint conference with The Wildlife Society in Reno. The award provides up to $1,000 in travel support and applications are due April 15.
Students: Any student who is active in fisheries or related aquatic disciplines and has not previously won a full Skinner Award is eligible to apply for this $800 award. Applications are due May 1.
