The inaugural 30 members of the Climate Ambassadors program have been announced. In January, they will begin a specialized communication skills training program that focuses on climate change. This training will then be applied to informing and educating others about climate change and the impact on aquatic environments.

The Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program is a paid summer internship and mentoring program for high school students to stimulate interest in careers in fisheries science and management among groups underrepresented in the fisheries professions, including minorities & women. Hutton Class of 2021 student and mentor applications are now both open and are due by February 15 for students and March 1 for mentors.

The commercially, recreationally, and culturally important Fraser River Sockeye Salmon Oncorhynchus nerka has experienced a productivity decline over the past 3 decades, which—along with greater temporal variation in annual abundance (i.e., cyclic dominance)—may at least partly be due to Steller sea lion Eumetopias jubatus predation on returning adult salmon.

Inland fisheries, defined as finfish caught in lakes, rivers, and other water bodies, provide economic value and a source of protein at local and international levels. However, no comprehensive compilation of U.S. inland commercial fisheries exists. The authors sought to obtain data across all 50 states during 1990–2015 and noted a small, but significant, decline in harvest.

Density‐dependent growth has been well documented among stream‐dwelling Brown Trout Salmo trutta populations. In Spearfish Creek, South Dakota, biomass of adult Brown Trout (>200 mm) is about three times greater than that reported for similar Black Hills streams, whereas the mean length of adult fish is about 30% less. In this paper, the authors evaluate density reduction as a management tool for improving the growth rate of stream‐dwelling Brown Trout.

Light trap captures of larval Razorback Sucker Xyrauchen texanus are used to trigger flow releases from Flaming Gorge Reservoir, which inundate floodplain wetland nursery habitat in the Green River, Utah. Little is known about the efficacy of traps to capture or retain larvae under field‐relevant conditions, so an exploratory study measured recapture rates of unmarked and marked (oxytetracycline hydrochloride) early life stages of Razorback Sucker in a Green River wetland.

This book describes the components of a warmwater fish hatchery and the basic techniques used for commonly cultured freshwater fishes. The book’s goal is to enable selection of an appropriate combination of techniques to successfully produce fish species in a hatchery setting.
