Spokane Symposium Submission Opens Soon

Under the theme of "What Do Fish Mean to Us?," the Program Committee of the 152nd Annual Meeting in Spokane, Washington, August 21-25, 2022, encourages symposium topics that exemplify the latest research in fisheries science and that will benefit a range of audiences with the aim of advancing the science of fisheries ecology, conservation, and management. This year, we are offering a forum for more collaboration and transparency in symposium development, which will open on December 1.

EPA and the Army announce an interim proposed rule that goes back to the pre-2015 guidance, with some tweaks, while the agencies work on a durable rule.

FISHERIES

The Natural Regulation and Relevance of Wild and Hatchery Coho Salmon Production in the Strait of Georgia

The commercial and recreational fishery for Coho Salmon Oncorhynchus kisutch in the Strait of Georgia in the 1970s and 1980s that annually averaged 733,800 individuals declined in the 1990s and was closed in 1998. The authors of this paper observed that above a threshold, ocean carrying capacity is regulating production and not the number of juvenile Coho Salmon entering the Strait of Georgia.

3 Simple Steps to Create a More Inclusive Work Space for Our LGBTQ+ Community

Unfortunately, those that identify as LGBTQ+ still face harassment, discrimination, and hate in our work places and conference spaces—especially transgender and/or non-binary individuals. In order to combat this, Cassidy Miles continuously shares ways in which we can all help to create a more inclusive work space for our LGTBTQ+ community. This is achieved through awareness, visibility and representation, and then support.

This book is the culmination of the life’s work of Johannes Schöffmann, a veritable explorer of the natural world, considered by the late Robert Behnke to be the “world’s authority on Brown Trout and their relatives.” It contains nearly 200 original images taken by the author of native trout and their habitats, along with accompanying maps and figures, and is a must-have for the shelf of any trout enthusiast, academic and nonacademic alike.
