Research: Development of a creative, independent and productive basic and/or applied research program in marine aquaculture science. Establish a strong extramurally funded laboratory, train undergraduate and graduate academic and professional (veterinary) students, and publish in peer-reviewed scientific/professional journals. Areas of research focus could include epidemiology, ecology, physiology, microbiology, virology, genetics, nutrition, immunology, population health, and/or pathology of marine animals.
Teaching: 1) Participate in the graduate academic programs (MS and PhD) of the campus and supervision of graduate students in relevant training programs; 2) participate in lectures and laboratories in the DVM professional curriculum; and 3) participate in the undergraduate and graduate training programs of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, College of Biological Sciences, and College of Letters and Sciences.
Service:Committee work, participate in professional organizations, continuing education and other means is required. Engagement with society beyond the university as a scholar, exchanging information, and speeding the rate at which new knowledge is delivered is expected.
Demonstrated experience, independent productivity, and creativity in building collaborative research programs in marine aquaculture science are required. PhD in a discipline relevant to marine aquaculture health or equivalent field is required, and a DVM or equivalent is desirable but not required. Highly desirable areas of research experience include sustainability of marine aquaculture, impacts of aquaculture on marine systems, and impacts of disease and environmental stressors on health in marine systems. Demonstrated record of effective teaching is desirable. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, an ability to work with others and an interest in unifying, extending, and catalyzing research in aquaculture at UC Davis.
