Coffeen Lake is a power plant cooling reservoir that hosts a wide diversity of recreational and ecological important fishes. This project comprises a continuing effort by Dynegy Energy Company and Eastern Illinois University to assess the fish community in Coffeen Lake and evaluate physiological traits of targeted species in response to the thermal effluent. Seasonal sampling of the fish assemblages will be combined with laboratory studies to generate an integrative dataset that combines both ecological and physiological status of fish communities in Coffeen Lake.

A graduate student position is available in the Department of Biological Sciences at Eastern Illinois University starting in June 2019 (early start date negotiable). The position comes with a tuition waiver and $1400/month stipend with a 12 month contract. We are in search of a self-motivated, team-working student that will assist with both field and laboratory sampling and data processing tasks. Knowledge of general physiology/molecular biology and fisheries and field/lab techniques is preferred. A GRE score of 309 and GPA of 3.3 is required.
