The diamondback terrapin is the only turtle in North America that lives in the brackish waters of estuaries and salt marshes and lays its eggs on land. Its population has declined due to numerous factors: wetland destruction, coastal bulkhead and riprap installation impeding access to the shore and therefore hindering reproductive success, predators ravaging nests, traffic fatalities and drownings in ghost crab pots. The student will partner with stakeholders and study terrapin site fidelity and reproductive success in Delaware.
B.S. in fisheries, biology, ecology or related field, minimum GPA 2.8, GRE. U.S. citizenship required. Minority students encourage to apply.
