Louisiana Sea Grant (LSG) is recruiting a Director of Grand Isle Oyster Research Laboratory (GIORL, (http://www.laseagrant.org/outreach/oyster-research-lab/) at the rank of Research Professor, that includes an adjunct appointment in the School of Renewable Natural Resources at LouisianaState University. The Grand Isle Oyster Research Laboratory is a collaborative venture with Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) to support oyster resource rehabilitation efforts and assist with development of an off-bottom aquaculture segment of the Louisiana oyster industry. LSG under the leadership of the GIORL Director will also conduct necessary oyster hatchery research to improve hatchery-based oyster production methods, including all technical aspects of producing oyster larvae and seed in the Michael C. Voisin Oyster Hatchery including but not limited to algal production, oyster broodstock maintenance and larval rearing, and operation of a re-circulating water system. The Research Professor is an annual appointment (twelve months) in Louisiana Sea Grant College Program at LSU, with an adjunct appointment in the School of Renewable Natural Resources (RNR) at LSU. The position is 40% research and 40% extension, along with 20% administration duties associated with GIORL.
Candidates should have a PhD in life sciences with publications and research experience to qualify for Graduate Faculty Status. The office domicile is two days per week at LSU; and three days at GIORL, which includes housing provided by Sea Grant.
