In 2000, John Rinne was in the thick of Verde and Gila River data comparisons and began wondering if other American rivers were experiencing similar losses of native riverine fish species, or if the Southwest United States cornered the market. The forum of a national meeting the next summer in nearby Phoenix seemed like a good place to answer that question. So he and Bob Calamusso decided to organize a session entitled which attracted 13 presenters.
