We begin with two snapshots of Atlantic salmon angling in North America. The similarities and contrasts between these two scenes serve to illustrate the diversity found in Atlantic salmon sport fisheries in eastern North America.

Bill’s alarm goes off with an annoying electronic buzz. He rolls out of bed, takes a quick shower, and heads to the kitchen. He has finally mastered the program mode on the coffee maker, and his first cup is waiting for him. He pours the rest into a worn stainless steel thermos bottle.
