Our final day of the Virtual Annual Conference looks back on our long history and also looks forward to meeting the challenges of the coming decades. We will welcome a past AFS president, Larry Nielsen, along with a panel of AFS Fellows who will discuss the future of fisheries. Larry A. Nielsen is Professor Emeritus of Natural Resources at North Carolina State University. A past president of AFS, Nielsen is a highly regarded public speaker and author, whose most recent book is titled Nature’s Allies: 8 Conservationists Who Changed Our World.

Fish Protection Prize

Join us at today's closing plenary session for the announcement of the winner(s) of the Fish Protection Prize. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Water Power Technologies Office, in collaboration with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, will award $700,000 of combined cash prizes and voucher support to up to three innovators who develop ways to help protect fish from water intake pipes.

Bidding in the Silent Auction closes today at 4:00 pm EDT. Get in those last-minute bids on unique fishing and nature trips, art and photography, jewelry, fishing equipment, and books. Registration for the Virtual Annual Meeting is not required to bid at the auction.

Mark your calendars for the 151st Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, August 8-12, 2021. The past, present, and future of fisheries science will be on display as we bring together professionals from across North America and countries throughout the world under the theme of “Investing in People, Habitat, and Science.” Baltimore, also known as “Charm City,” is famous for its blue crabs and crab cakes, as well as its vibrant cargo port and location on the Chesapeake Bay. Baltimore will be a fantastic place to continue to commemorate 150 years of fisheries science achievements, so be sure to join us for special celebrations throughout the conference.
