AFS 2022 Climate Sci Comm Training Track
The science community has been working to convey how our changing climate is impacting our aquatic natural resources, yet we often fail to engage or inspire our various audiences. To achieve our communication goals, we must have a deeper understanding of the practices that work, and what does not work for broader engagement.
As part of this multi-day training program, participants will take a deep dive into major aspects of effective science communication including use of narrative, connecting with an audience, and developing effective presentations.
Participants will be asked to attend a set of Climate-related symposia and presentations during the AFS Annual Meeting to complement the sci-comm training.
This training will include over 20 hours of science communication instruction including:
-Pre-meeting online workshops (mid-August)
-In-person workshops in Spokane (Saturday, August 20, Sunday, Aug. 21, Thursday, Aug. 25)
-Post-meeting online sessions (September)
Course Fee: $950 for AFS members; $1150 for non-members
The fee includes full Annual Meeting registration, over 20 hours of course training, meals during workshop sessions, and all course materials. A limited number of scholarships are available for individuals from underrepresented groups.
