OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS TO PUBLISH THE AMERICAN FISHERIES SOCIETY’S PUBLICATIONS
Driving the growth of AFS journals, while maintaining high quality, reputation, and impact, at the heart of new agreement
September 4, 2024 – Oxford, UK: Oxford University Press (OUP) has announced a major new agreement with the American Fisheries Society (AFS) to publish its five prestigious peer-reviewed journals and Fisheries, the society’s monthly membership magazine, from 1 January 2025. The publications will join OUP’s portfolio of more than 500 titles, three-quarters of which are published on behalf of learned and professional societies.
The AFS journals are centered around the publication of high-impact research covering all aspects of fisheries research in support of fisheries professions. Transactions of the American Fisheries Society features papers on basic fisheries science; the North American Journal of Fisheries Management covers management research, experiences, and recommendations; the North American Journal of Aquaculture provide guidance for those who breed and raise aquatic animals; the Journal of Aquatic Animal Health is focused on health maintenance and disease treatment; and Marine and Coastal Fisheries publishes papers on marine, coastal, and estuarine fisheries.
Speaking about the new agreement, Ashley Petrylak, Publishing Director at OUP, said: “We are delighted to embark on a new collaboration with AFS to publish their portfolio of the most essential fisheries science journals. The close alignment of the AFS and OUP missions will allow us to collaboratively grow the impact, sustainability, and innovation of the journals.”
“For more than 150 years, AFS journals have served as the best platform for fisheries professionals to communicate their important research,” said AFS Executive Director Doug Austen. “We’re delighted to partner with a distinguished non-profit publisher that values the mission of scientific societies and will help us continue to grow and better serve both our members and our critical fisheries and aquatic resources.”
