New Award Announcement: William R. Mote Fisheries Fellowship

The American Fisheries Society (AFS) is thrilled to announce the establishment of the William R. Mote Fisheries Fellowship. Eligible applicants will be invited to apply for the award next year; 2021 will also be the first year the fellowship is awarded.

Named for Mr. William Russell Mote, who was an avid angler and lifelong benefactor to marine science, the fellowship will be awarded to graduate students working in research on the conservation and sustainability of fisheries species considered popular for recreation. Mr. Mote’s legacy includes the internationally recognized Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium in Sarasota, Florida, and the William R. and Leonore Mote Endowment at Florida State University’s Department of Biological Sciences.

Additional details regarding the award timeline, eligibility, and other requirements will be shared in the coming weeks.

The American Fisheries Society offers its sincere thanks to the Mote Scientific Foundation for providing the initial investment of $50,000 to establish the fellowship.
