The Gulf of California, also known as the Sea of Cortez, is a sub-tropical sea located between the Baja Peninsula and the Mexican mainland states of Sonora and Sinaloa. There are 17 families and 67 species of chondrichthian fish, 115 families and 753 species of bony fish, plus two species of myxinids present in the Gulf of California. This work covers 105 families and over 400 species.
