Responsibilities

Work with fish and protected species assessment contacts to coordinate continued development and recommend improvements and further enhancements to the Species Information System (SIS) online user interfaces and public portals.
Provide QA/QC for data submissions to SIS.
Manage SIS administrative data tasks, including maintaining SIS entities and associated records.
Provide information management systems training for SIS users.
Track and request information required for input to quarterly reports on the status of planned and completed stock assessments.
Prepare responses to national stock assessment and stock status data requests.
Provide technical expertise to support the ongoing implementation of the Stock Assessment Improvement Plan.

Qualifications

Master’s or PhD in quantitative ecology or related field. Examples of relevant degrees include: marine science, fisheries, population dynamics, ecological/ecosystem/environmental modeling, oceanography, biomathematics, and mathematics or statistics applied to natural resources management. The quantitative element is an essential component for this position.
Experience with data analysis and in the design, development, and management of relational databases for scientific information.
Familiarity and experience with the NMFS fish stock assessment enterprise, including an understanding of analytical techniques, terminology, and the connection between stock assessment and marine resource management.
