Responsibilities

Univ of So. MS Dept of Coastal Sciences & the Gulf Coast Rsch Lab
The successful applicant will participate in a research project to describe the life history characteristics of the southern flounder, Paralichthys lithostigma, within the Mississippi Sound. Selected students will aide in project design and development, and collect, process and analyze the collected data. This project will shed light on the reproductive biology, age structure and seasonal movements of the southern flounder within the Mississippi Sound. A key aspect of this project will be to engage with and mentor local high school and community college students to work in the laboratory and field. Anticipated start date is late summer, 2014.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a B.S. in fisheries, ecology, biology, zoology or closely related field. Special consideration will be given to students with BS with interests in quantitative ecological and fishery applications. An interest in mentoring junior scientist is a critical aspect of this work. Minimum academic qualifications include GRE scores in the upper 50th percentile in each category and 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 system).
