A full time, 12 month, salaried position. Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, a maintenance engineer assists in development and implementation of hatchery goals. A hands on supervisory role over maintenance staff and seasonal employees. Operational responsibilities include, perform repairs, routine and preventive maintenance on equipment and facilities including buildings, motors, pumps, tools, hydraulic, electrical and plumbing systems, small engines loaders, forklifts and other equipment.
Essential job functions:
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules and records.
• Fabricate new tools and equipment.
• Share the on call / standby schedules with staff, and respond to emergency and process alarms.
• Supervise all maintenance staff.
• Provide assistance and coordination of maintenance projects with the operations and hatchery managers.
• Perform and assist in repairs of all equipment and facilities.
• Assists in training and implementation of safety programs.


High school graduate or equivalent, prefer a secondary degree or training in vocational related fields and at least five years experience in a similar position, preferably in a salmon hatchery environment. Must have the ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers. Must be able to hear alarms and other auditory and visual warnings. Applicants must be computer literate, obtain a valid AK driver’s license, solve problems using mathematical formulas and accurately obtain and evaluate data. Good physical health and the ability to thrive in extreme Alaskan environmental conditions. The ability to wear a respirator and obtain a physician’s approval to perform work.
