M.S. Graduate Research Assistant, salmon ecology/paleolimnology
As part of an interdisciplinary investigation on Alaska’s Kenai River watershed, the student will analyze sediment cores to estimate sockeye salmon abundance over the past 2000 years and evaluate the relationship between paleo-climate proxies and long-term salmon abundance. Candidates should have an interest in salmon ecology and limnology plus an eagerness to learn and apply stable isotope and diatom-based techniques. Can start immediately, but no later than August 2013.
B.S. in fisheries biology, ecology, or related field is required. Experience with stable isotopes or diatom taxonomy is preferred. Applicants with a GPA ≥ 3.2, GRE > 60th percentile, and applicable research experience will be highly competitive.
