The individual in this position serves as the Director of the E. W. Shell Fisheries Center in Auburn, Alabama. This person will report directly to the department head and will be responsible for all operational aspects of the center. The center encompasses 621 hectares of managed property, which includes 340 earthen ponds (~90 hectares of surface water) and 12 buildings associated with facility maintenance, storage, research, and teaching. Essential functions include, but are not limited to: supervise all personnel assigned to the center; interact with departmental faculty, staff, and students to coordinate activities in support of research, teaching, and extension; supervise staff on the acquisition, care, and disposition of various aquatic species; maintenance and development of facilities; maintain budgets at the center and make financial and management recommendations to meet the department’s goals; maintain appropriate personnel and provide a proactive environment for guidance and encouragement of personal and professional development; develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance with biological and institutional safety requirements; and perform other duties as assigned.

The minimum qualifications are a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Aquaculture, Fisheries, Animal Science, Management, Business, Agricultural Business or other agriculture related field and five years of experience in agricultural operations and/or agricultural research. Employer will consider advanced degrees in lieu of experience. When a candidate has the required experience, but lacks the required education, they may normally apply additional relevant experience toward the education requirement, at a rate of two (2) years relevant experience per year of required education. Past experience must reflect knowledge of aquaculture, fisheries, research design and implementation, facility design and construction and project management. Previous supervisory experience, excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, and demonstrated technical expertise are essential. Ability to work alongside as well as lead in a team environment is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate a vision for continual improvement of programs and facilities, meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time appointment is scheduled to begin, and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
