North State Resources, Inc., (NSR), a leading provider of natural resources management and environmental compliance services in northern California, seeks aquatic ecologists and fishery biologists, who are committed to furthering their professional career, to be part of our multidisciplinary team. This is a full-time, position based in Redding, Chico, or Sacramento, with technical, management, and related responsibilities throughout the company.


Required knowledge and skills: NSR is seeking full-time aquatic biologists, with expertise in aquatic ecology and fisheries science, to perform quantitative and qualitative biological and ecological investigations, aquatic habitat inventories, monitoring projects, and environmental assessments. Activities include designing studies; archival research; conducting field studies; analyzing data; writing and reviewing technical reports; contributing to environmental compliance documents; and providing technical support to various project teams. The incumbent must be able to work successfully both independently and as a team member under the supervision of a lead scientist, and work effectively with federal, state, and local agencies, private landowners, and non-government organizations.

Minimum Requirements: At a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in fisheries or marine biology, aquatic ecology, or closely related discipline is required. Preference will be given to applicants with excellent academic and professional credentials. Expertise with fishery and water resource data collection; analytical and statistical techniques; and computer related skills is required. Demonstrable experience with aquatic ecology and applied fishery research and management is necessary; additionally, practical investigation and monitoring experience with fish sampling, animal telemetry techniques, water quality, stream ecology and watershed science, geomorphology, invertebrate zoology, limnology, and environmental assessment is preferred. Preference will further be given to applicants who, in addition to possessing strong technical knowledge and abilities, demonstrate experience in preparing technical analyses for environmental compliance documents. Applicants must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. An ability to work well with people is essential.
