Successful applicant will work on USDA-funded research projects studying the molecular and genetic/genomic basis of nutrient retention efficiency and nutritional/environmental factors that modulate mitochondrial function and biochemistry in finfishes. Duties include care and feeding of fish, monitoring fish health and routine monitoring of water quality parameters, preparing formulated diets, performing biochemical analysis such as enzyme assay and protein purification, performing molecular biology analysis such as DNA and mitochondrial DNA and RNA extraction from animal tissues and quantification, standard PCR and real-time RT-PCR assays, isolating DNA from agarose and acrylamide gels, and performing Western and Northern blot analyses. Maintains inventory of chemicals, prepares solutions and reagents for use in the laboratory according to established methods.
Candidates should have a recent M.Sc. degree in Aquaculture, or related field with a strong background in aquaculture nutrition and experience in genomics and enzyme kinetics. Applicants should have the ability to work independently and as part of a team with excellent written and oral communication skills.
