The Ohio State University and Ohio Department of Natural Resources are seeking applicants for a full-time, term (up to 2 years) fisheries research associate position at the Sandusky Fisheries Research Station. The job duties include field (bottom trawling, gill netting, water and plankton sampling, identification and sorting of fish species by age group, weight-length sampling of sport and commercial harvest, data recording), lab (measure/weigh/age fish, food habits analysis, processing plankton and chlorophyll samples, record data) and general laborer (vessel maintenance, construct/repair sampling equipment, maintain fish aquarium, assist other employees as needed) responsibilities. The successful candidate will also be expected to schedule sampling events and operate a research vessel (<34’) on Lake Erie. Professional instruction will be provided to accomplish this activity; however, previous experience operating vessels on large bodies of water is beneficial.
Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience & training in aquatic science and/or fisheries. Exposure to undergraduate courses in fisheries techniques, fisheries management, fish ecology, ichthyology, statistics and limnology
