American Fisheries Society (AFS) professional Gwen White received the Meritorious Service Award at the 2016 American Fisheries Society Annual Meeting in Kansas City, Missouri. AFS President Ron Essig presented the award at the meeting’s plenary session. The Meritorious Service Award, first presented in 1986, is awarded annually to an individual AFS member for loyalty, dedication, and meritorious service to AFS over a long period of time and for exceptional commitment to the programs, objectives, and long-term goals of the society.
Gwen has demonstrated consistent and impressive leadership at all levels of AFS. She exemplifies the qualities of loyalty, dedication, and commitment to AFS programs, objectives, and goals. Her length of service to the society and the diversity of her service activities are exceptional. Gwen's service to AFS includes unit leadership, but her contributions go beyond that to helping other unit leaders craft a unit vision and an implementation plan that encompasses the society's vision. Her talents as a parliamentarian and facilitator permeate every level of involvement she has with AFS, its units, and its committees. We have long benefited from her skill in helping others identify and articulate goals and objectives.
